KARACHI, Nov 1: The Sindh High Court Bar Association strongly condemned on Wednesday the ‘cold-blooded’ killing of innocent civilians in an armed forces attack on a madressah in Bajaur Agency and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident by the Supreme Court.
A resolution, passed by an emergency meeting of the SHCBA executive under the chairmanship of M Ilyas Khan, the association’s president, criticized the statement of President Pervez Musharraf that those killed in the unprovoked strike were ‘terrorists’.
The statement ‘ex facie’ added insult to injury. It said every individual is presumed to be innocent under the law till proven guilty by due judicial process.
The resolution said if any illegal activity was being carried out at the madressah, there was nothing to prevent the police, the rangers or the levies to arrest ‘the so-called terrorists’ or seize illegal weapons from their possession. The ‘barbaric’ strike cannot be justified under any circumstance, it added.
The association said a thorough probe should be held by the Supreme Court to ascertain the responsibility for the unwarranted attack. Any recurrence of such attacks would be ‘disastrous’ for the nation and would endanger the solidarity of the federation, it warned.
