KARACHI, Oct 27: The Muttahida Majlis Amal MNAs on Friday expressed concern over caving in of a large patch on the newly opened track of the Liaquatabad underpass and demanded of immediate inquiry into the matter.
In a statement, Mohammad Hussain Mahenti, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Laeeq Khan noted that the Liaqatabad underpass collapsed on the second day of its inauguration owing to corruption while excuse of high water level was made for concealing failure and dishonesty of the concerned authorities.
“The truth is that sophisticated construction technology and special construction material was not used and embezzlement on large scale was made during construction process”, they charged.
Castigating the MQM-run city government for death of innocent people due to collapse of the road at the underpass, the MMA legislators spoke about the uplift works undertaken by the former city Nazim Naimatullah Khan. They said that the MQM was starting big projects without any proper planning which was against the interests of Karachiites.
“Development works so far undertaken in the present regime have proved that it could not beat the former city government to serve people with honesty”.
They demanded for immediate cessation of payment to contractors who engaged in construction of the Liaqatabad underpass and added that the NAB and other national security institutions should conduct an inquiry into standard of construction material used in the construction of the underpasses and roads.—PPI
