GUJRANWALA, Oct 20: The National Highway and Motorway Police on Friday foiled a bid of Kamoki residents to breach a closed U-turn on the GT Road and took machinery into custody.
Reports said the NH&MP closed a U-turn in front of the Government Girls Degree College on the GT Road for smooth flow of traffic just two days ago. But the residents of area, along with some influential people, reached there and started breaching the U-turn.
The NH&MP reached the spot and foiled the bid to open the turn.
BOYCOTT: Students of the Rachna Engineering and Technology College on Friday continued their protest and boycotted their classes against the administration for its failure to affiliate the institution with the Pakistan Engineering Council in Jora Sain village, Wazirabad.
The protesting students also held a meeting at the college ground and demanded the government that their institution should be affiliated with the PEC to secure their future.
They alleged that the college administration was opposing the affiliation for its vested interest. They also chanted slogans against the principal and pledged that they would continue the boycott till the acceptance of their demand.
On the other hand, the Punjab governor has summoned both the principal and student leaders for talks in Lahore.
CRUSHED TO DEATH: A minor boy was crushed to death while his sister was injured seriously by an express train on the railway track in Peoples Colony here on Friday.
Rashidan Bibi went to a clinic near the railway track. The two minor children accompanying her started playing outside the clinic on the track when the train hit them. Consequently, Akber (3) died on the spot while his sister Eisha (4) sustained injuries.
SUSPENDED: The deputy jail superintendent and hospital dispenser of the district jail were suspended from service for the dereliction of their duty here on Friday.
Reports said that DCO Manzer Hayat visited the jail and also its hospital where patients complained that they were not being provided proper medical facilities. On the recommendation of the DCO, the Punjab home secretary suspended deputy jail superintendent Malik Attaullah and dispenser Muhammad Aslam Bhatti and also issued them show-cause notices.
Meanwhile, the DCO also visited the children ward of the DHQ Hospital and distributed Eid gifts among the children and their mothers. The Hilal-i-Ahmer arranged the gifts.
The DCO urged the hospital administration to provide better medical facilities to the children. Medical superintendent Dr Javed Akther, children ward in-charge Dr Farrukh Bashir Nagi and other senior doctors also accompanied the DCO.
Earlier, the ward in-charge gave the DCO briefing about the diseases of children and its treatment.
