KARACHI, Oct 12: Bandits had a field day on Wednesday as they deprived 115 people of their cars, motorbikes or cellular phones in various localities here.

Police said 38 vehicles – 16 cars and 22 motorbikes – and 77 mobile phones were either snatched at gunpoint or stolen.

They said that three cars were hijacked and 13 others stolen. Eight motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint and 14 others stolen in different areas.

Twenty-five people reported that they were held up by bandits at gunpoint in various localities who snatched their cellphones, cash and belongings. Fifty-two other people reported to the police that their mobile phone sets were stolen.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, which had launched the mobile phone jamming technology since Sept 30, claimed that more than 4,500 stolen cellular phone sets had been made dysfunctional. The complaints were being received regularly, and the stolen phone sets were being jammed accordingly, it added.
