KARACHI, Oct 12: The students’ adviser of the political science department, University of Karachi, Azra Anjum has resigned from her post in protest against the rustication of a student for two years for allegedly misbehaving with a lady teacher.

In her letter to the university administration, Azra Anjum, said that the respective student had been rusticated on the basis of baseless and dubious allegations levelled by an assistant professor of political science department, Samar Sultana, who charged that Mohammed Ashfaq, a student of the Department of Education had misbehaved and shouted at her during a protest demonstration, as a result of that she fell unconscious.

However, Azra Anjum contested Samar Sultana's claim saying she did not fell unconscious and was in her full senses when she reached the varsity's dispensary, the university sources said.

She said the so-called disciplinary committee had turned the future of a brilliant student on the basis of concocted and politically-motivated charges, therefore, she could not continue as the students’ adviser anymore.

A KU official on the condition of anonymity told Online that the disciplinary committee had found the student not guilty in its findings, however, some office-bearers of the Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) had pressurised the committee to take action against him.

"The vice-chancellor too is fully aware of the fact that he (student) was not guilty, and he earlier had refused to endorse the disciplinary committee's decision, but he is under pressure by the KUTS office-bearers belonging to a ruling coalition partner", he maintained.—Online
