LARKANA, Oct 2: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, would enforce in 2007 that a decision about allocation of marks and question papers, announced the controller of examination in a circular.

The controller said that all decisions taken at ministerial level and duly approved by the committee of the chairmen of Sindh boards would be enforced in 2007 and asked the principals concerned and headmasters to convey them to the teaching staff and students, said the circular dated September 29.

Sources in the education department told Dawn on Monday that the decisions about marks allocation were taken at the 9th inter provincial education ministers meeting, which were subsequently adopted by the committee of the chairmen of Sindh boards in a meeting on January 14.

The board of governors of the BISE, Larkana had adopted the decisions, the source said.

According to the decision the marks for the practical examination had been reduced from 25 per cent to 15 percent while marks for computer science had been left unchanged, applicable for the examination to be conducted in 2007.

According to the revised pattern, 20 per cent part of question papers would contain objective questions with multiple choice on the pattern of ‘A’ and ‘O’ level. Fifty percent questions would require short answers while 30 per cent would require descriptive answers, the notification said.

The choice of questions in the question papers had been reduced to 33 per cent to ensure questions from all the chapters, it said.

The number of grace marks had been cut down to six from 11 to the candidates of secondary and higher secondary school examination.

The grace marks would not be awarded in more than two subjects in any examination and marks to be awarded in each subject would not be more than three, it explained.
