LANDI KOTAL, Oct 2: At least three people were killed when activists of religious groups detained by their rivals in Tirah Vally tried to escape.

Some supporters of Ansaarul Islam detained by the Lashkar-i-Islam escaped after killing watchman Sherin Khan, who had untied them for Iftar.

They were chased by Lashker men and intercepted at Malikdin Khel area, where an exchange of fire left two Ansaar men, Rana Gul and Asmatullah, dead. At least seven of the captives escaped.

Lashkar supporters are reported to have cordoned off the area to find them.

In Nikki Khel area of Landi Kotal tehsil, a Tableeghi Jamaat man was injured in a clash with supporters of the Tanzim Ehli Sunnath Aal Jamaat.

The two groups had a row over the presence of a Tableeghi Jamaat delegation in the area.

ACCIDENT: A woman teacher of a government primary school in Torkham was killed and driver of the pick-up injured when a school van fell in a trench along the Torkham-Landi Kotal road on Monday.

The body of the victim, Naurin, was sent to Mardan.

The driver, Nadar Khan, was admitted to the Landi Kotal hospital with critical injuries.
