GUJRANWALA, Oct 2: A trader was kidnapped and later killed by his rivals over a monetary dispute on Khokherki-Sialkot Road on Monday.
Reports said Muhammad Rafiq had lent Rs100,000 for business to accused Imran, Irfan and his uncle Ilyas who declined to give the money back.
About 20 days ago, they called Rafiq at Naushera Virkan, allegedly killed him and threw his body into a drain which was recovered by the police. Further investigation is under way.
DEATH AWARDED: The local anti-terrorism court No 1 on Monday handed down death sentence to three accused and ordered forfeiture of their properties in a kidnap for ransom case in Kharian.
The court acquitted nine co-accused Safdar Aslam, Mudassar Nadim, Qamar Abbas, Afzal Ahmad, Muhammad Akram, Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Altaf, Akhlaq Ahmad and Pervez Akhtar by giving them the benefit of the doubt.
According to the prosecution, Muhammad Rafiq, Mazhar Abbas and Muhammad Afzal had abducted the wife of Dr Khizar Hayat from her house at Haqiqa village, Kharian and later released her after receiving a ransom of Rs900,000 on Aug 12, 2004.
