ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: Religious scholars and ulema have dubbed President General Pervez Musharraf security risk, and asked the people to wake up and launch movement against him.

Giving their reaction over Gen Musharraf’s controversial book and his policy statements issued during his visit to America and Britain they said “the General has bartered away Pakistan’s sovereignty”. The behaviour of Mr Musharraf there did not behove of a free and sovereign country, they added.

Addressing a press conference, president Jamiat Ittehad-e-Ulema Pakistan Maulana Abdul Malik said that the general had brought great disrepute to the country through his unauthentic and disputed book. The statement of Gen Musharraf that Taliban would be abolished is a declaration of war against the people, he said. The Maulana said that the present government had lost its credibility appealing to all people as well as the political parties to unite against it.—Staff Reporter
