ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has urged the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) to speed up the party enrolment drive and focus on solving people’s problems through a proactive approach.

The prime minister was talking to a PML delegation which had called on him at the Prime Minister House here on Sunday.

He said that President General Pervez Musharraf’s extensive interaction with world leaders, think-tanks, academia, investors, mediapersons and the Pakistani community during his recent four-nation visit would go a long way in projecting Pakistan’s viewpoint on vital regional and international issues.

“The visit will also project the country’s true image abroad,” he told the delegation.

Mr Aziz said that President Musharraf successfully portrayed Pakistan as an investment-friendly country and highlighted the investment-friendly policies of the government. It would help bring more investments to Pakistan and result in employment generation, upgradation of skills and transfer of knowledge and technology.

Members of the PML delegation hailed President Musharraf’s visit and said that he had successfully projected Pakistan as a moderate, enlightened and peace-loving country. The visit would further help dispel misperceptions about Pakistan, they hoped.

Led by PML secretary general Mushahid Hussain Syed, the delegation included Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azim, PML vice president Syed Kabir Ali Wasti, Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab Rahat Kadoosi, MPA Raja Rashid Hafiz and president PML Islamabad Dr Mohammad Amjad.

The prime minister also met Pakistan Awami Party leader Fanoos Gujjar and Batagram district Nazim Ehasnullah and said that the government was committed to accelerating growth, improving people’s standard of living and ensuring equitable development in all parts of the country.

During the meeting, he discussed various development projects undertaken in the NWFP.

The government had allocated huge funds for spreading education among the people, he said, adding that a skills development programme had also been launched in the province to produce technical hands in various fields. Country’s political situation was also discussed on the occasion.

The Batagram district nazim also conveyed his appreciation for the help extended by the federal government in rehabilitating the quake victims.
