LAHORE, Sept 20: Five-time national champions Wapda defeated Pakistan Navy 2-0 in the Premier Football League at Model Town C-Block Ground on Wednesday. It was Wapda’s fourth consecutive win in the 110-match event. They are leading the table with 12 points.
Wapda's goalkeeper Aziz was impressive as he thwarted several attempts from Asif Mehmood, Nomi Martin and Sajjad Ahmed.
Wapda gained an early lead through international midfielder Imran Niazi who struck in the fourth minute off a pass from Mohammad Shahid.
Shahzad, the first-choice keeper of Pakistan U-23 team that won the 10th South Asian Games title in Colombo last month, was again beaten in the 86th minute when leading scorer Arif dodged three defenders before slotting home for Wapda.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) did not increase total cash prizes of Rs 2.345 million which was offered to the participants of league last year.
According to the break-up, the champions will receive a purse of Rs300,000, while the runners-up Rs200,000. The third and fourth teams will receive Rs100,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively. The most valuable player will get Rs25,000, while leading scorer Rs20,000.
In addition, Rs.1.980million will be distributed among participants as bonus.
