KARACHI, Sept 20: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Wednesday signed an emergency power supply agreement with US-based Alstom Power Rentals (APR) in Lahore.
Under the agreement the APR will install a 136-mw power plant at Sheikhupura which will be fully commissioned within 120 days. The plant will be operated and maintained by Alstom for 36 months.
The agreement will help Wapda to meet the immediate energy requirements without any capital investment on its part.
APR president John Campion said the project would contribute towards resolving the country’s energy crisis.
The APR was awarded the project through a competitive bidding process.
Alstom has undertaken fast-track Power Projects throughout the world including in Sri Lanka, Haiti and Mexico.
Oklahoma-based Walters Power International (WPI) and Lahore-based Associated Group (AG) are working with the APR on the setting up of this project, says a press release of AG.
