LAHORE, Feb 12: A card of six events, looking competitive, has been chalked out for the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday. All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.

The fields for the events comprise mediocre acceptors belonging to lower divisions of Class seven, which is often a usual phenomenon of the mid-week gymkhana races.

The feature and sixth event, the Bhalwal Plate, Class VII Division IV & V (combined), has a large field of 17 runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

A quick glance at their recent performances and keeping in view handicapping, four out of them should be in with a chance.

They are: bay horse Blu’s Wendy, grey mare Silk Route, bay gelding Star Gate and chestnut horse Born Champion.

They have been figuring on the board in a couple of their previous outings. Blu’s Wendy and Silk Route were given tender rides in their last outings.

Blu’s Wendy, who is carrying a top weight of nine stones seven pounds looks more seasoned of the four and should make amends this time. The remaining three should fight for the board.

The fifth and supporting event, the Bhalwal Plate Class VII Division V & VI has an equally big field comprising 16 runners, if there are no last-minute scratchings.

Of them four stand a chance. They are: chestnut horse Rakhsh, bay filly Special Dream, the mare Morning Glory and dark bay filly Ghabra. They should fight to claim the top slot.

The first race will be held at 12.00 pm.
