ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: The government is planning to establish a science and technology museum to promote science among students, said Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) chairman Dr N.A. Butt here on Wednesday.

He said the government was seriously working for the promotion of science and several new initiatives had been taken to encourage scientific research and other activities.

Dr Butt was speaking at the concluding session of a two-day workshop titled rainwater conservation: a contribution to sustainable environment at the University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi (UAAR).

He said the PSF planned to hold a science exhibition at the national level to provide scientists an opportunity to learn about modern technology.

He said several mobile caravans were working under the supervision of the PSF to provide scientific know-how at the school level. These caravans visit various schools and persuade students to take interest in learning science.

Besides, he said, a strategy was being evolved to enhance interaction between scientists of Pakistan and other countries. He said Pakistani students had great scientific talent which was realised by renowned scientists of the world.

However, this ability needs to be exploited for the benefit of the country.

He said Pakistani students needed a conducive atmosphere and justice of merit to lead towards progress. He also stressed the need for utilising nanotechnology in every field which has been bringing about revolutionary changes in the world.

Several recommendations were made on the occasion. One of them recommended for evolving a strategy to reduce wastage of water by constructing both small and big dams. It recommended creation of public awareness to reduce wastage of water by changing values and habits in water utilisation.

It was suggested that reliable data collection and monitoring of water resources should be done at a priority basis for developing a comprehensive and integrated management with concerted institutional approach to conserve water.

Water resource development should be given a top priority at all levels including farms and domestic level.
