GUJRANWALA, Sept 13: A police investigator who got confirmed the interim bail of a proclaimed offender even after misplacing the supplementary record was booked and transferred by the district police officer after an inquiry here on Wednesday.
Reports said POs Faiz Rasul, Waris and others of Bopra Kalan village kidnapped their rival, Nasir Ahmad, for pursuing a case against them. Saifullah and Muhammad Hanif, the then investigation officials, inquired into the case and recorded supplementary statements of the witness. The kidnapped man, however, could not be recovered.
Meanwhile, the investigation officials were transferred and an accused inspector, Haji Muzammil Husain, was deputed to carry on the investigation. He allegedly contacted the POs to help them out of the trial. He got confirmed the interim bail of PO Waris after misplacing the police record.
The complainant approached DPO Mian Muhammad Asif who ordered an inquiry and inducted Naushera Virkan DSP Ghulam Mustafa to probe the case. The DSP found the inspector guilty after which the DPO ordered registration of a case against the official and transferred him.
Released: District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Husain removed the fetters of 126 prisoners during his visit to jail on the orders of Supreme Court here on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court had issued the directive to remove the shackles of prisoners when human rights and non-government organisations (NGOs) requested for it.
The judge visited the central jail and prepared a list of prisoners who have been chained.
The jail superintendent told him that 3,700 prisoners have been detained while it has capacity of 913 prisoners.
The jail authorities claimed that prisoners were being provided facilities in accordance with the jail manual. However, the judge also visited barracks, including women and juveniles, and checked hospital and kitchen. He directed the judicial magistrates to accelerate the process of hearing of cases of prisoners and announced the decision on merit swiftly to avoid long detention of prisoners.
