KARACHI, Sept 12: A delegation comprising the newly elected office bearers of Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) called on Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar M. Khan on Tuesday to discuss various issues confronting Karachi cricket.

Led by association president Dr S M Shah, the delegation included secretary Sirajul Islam Bukhari and treasurer Mehdi Hasan.

PCB chief briefed the delegation on his expectations from KCCA regarding organisation of club and school cricket, maintenance of grounds and staging of Test and ODI matches in the city.

KCCA officials assured Shaharyar of their complete cooperation and discussed their plan of promoting club cricket in the region.

The PCB Chairman agreed to develop the remaining two grounds in Zone-III and Zone-VI as part of the development plan which entails establishing of one ground in each of the seven zones of Karachi.

Five grounds have already been developed in Zone-I, Zone-II, Zone IV, Zone V and Zone VII respectively.

The Chairman of PCB also promised to construct four practice wickets at the KCCA Stadium and provide fixed chairs in the new pavilion built by KCCA from its own funds.

The delegation also debated the unfair selection process of various regional teams from Karachi in the national level tournaments and complained that the KCCA had little control over the process.

Agreeing with KCCA’s objection, Shaharyar said that at least two selectors who will be association’s nominees will be part of the selection process from now on.—Agencies
