LAHORE, Sept 7: The police will now register a murder case in twine related deaths related to kite strings. This was decided at a meeting of all divisional SPs headed by DIG (operation) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan here on Thursday.

The DIG said on the direction of the Supreme Court the police would not spare the people involved in kite flying.

He said since the ban was enforced on kite flying in October last year 2,345 people had been booked and 2,609 arrested. In addition, 5,222 kites and 3,120 twine sets were also recovered.

Some 303 policemen had been penalized for failing to take action against the people involved in kite flying, he said.

GANG BUSTED: The Investigation police (Cantt division) claimed to have busted a gang of criminals involved in a number of incidents of murder and robbery in different parts of the city.

DIG (Investigation) Mubarik Ali Ather had directed SP (Investigation) Babar Bakht Qureshi to take effective measures against the criminals involved in heinous crimes.

The police said gangsters of the Raja gang would snatch valuables from passersby, motorcyclists and car riders at gunpoint. They had also shot dead iron factory owner Muhammad Waheed during a dacoity attempt on Aug 25 in Harbancepura area.

Around nine cases have been traced against these culprits in Harbancepura and Mustafaabad police stations. Those arrested were identified as Salman alias Raja, Tariq alias Tara, Sikandar, Shan Aslam and Abdul Razzaq.

SUCCUMBS TO INJURY: An unidentified old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital 12 days after he was hit by a car while crossing a road in the Nawankot area.

BODIES FOUND: Bodies of two unidentified people were found in Naulakha and Old Anarkali areas.

The body an old man, seemed to be a beggar, was found near the Noori Masjid, while the body of a middle-aged man, seemed to be a drug-addict, was found near Nasser Bagh.
