KARACHI, Aug 31: Adaab Arz, a six-year-old bay horse, surprised all and sundry when he lowered the colours of fancied filly, Butter Fly, to win the feature event as outsiders reigned supreme in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Thursday.

Adaab Arz ended the victory jinx with a facile three and three-quarter-of-a-length win over Butter Fly which came in a smart time of 1 min 3 1/5 seconds. Formerly known as Keen Winner, he was galloped home by Aashiq Ali and sent by S.A. Zaidi.

Finishing further two-and-a-half lengths behind was mare, Velvet Green, while colt Jawan Bakht completed the frame.

In the supporting event five-year-old bay mare, Countess Mah Again, pulled off an upset when she edged out favourite chestnut colt, Red Rufus, by four-and-a-half lengths.

Thanks Naeem and Paidagir occupied the following two places as joint favourite filly Abhi Abhi bite the dust by finishing off the board in a small field of six contenders.

But the frustrating racing fraternity heaved a sigh of relief when fancied three-year-old bay filly, Queen Of Mirwa, with strong public backing, was sprinted home by jockey M. Yousuf in a start to finish bid, beating Trust Again by five-and-a-half lengths.

Its trainer Mohiuddin was jubilant, so was owner Irfan Mehdi since they had received a setback when fancied filly Make Millions let the two down in an earlier race.

Khas-ul-Khas, a nine-year-old bay horse, atone to his successive dismal runs when he was piloted home by M. Amjad leaving the pundits guessing. He beat Foolish Pleasure by three-quarter-of-a-length.

With no worth eight-year-old bay mare, Ghabra, claimed the opener beating Ladla by one-and-a-half lengths. Public fancy King Of The Field was among those who also ran as he was not tried by the connections.

After a long lay-off, mare, Piyari Mehbooba, shone beating mare, Guarantee, by four-and-a-half lengths.

Tipped to make amends, Al Zarrar won hands down by getting the better of colt, Fight For Fame by one-and-a-half lengths.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Wednesday.
