KARACHI, Aug 30: Filthy water standing on several major roads in Saddar and those surrounding Empress Market have turned the atmosphere stinky all around the shopping centers and residential buildings besides hindering the smooth flow of traffic.

A portion of different roads where pool of dirty water can be seen include Raja Ghazanfar Ali Road, Daudpota Road, Preedy Street and a number of adjoining streets.

People residing in Saddar and in the vicinity of Empress Market complained that though the filthy environment owing to stagnant water had been persisting since the city received the second spell of rain, officials in the Saddar Town administration as well as the cantonment board concerned have neither drained out the stagnant water from the affected roads and streets nor rectified the fault responsible for the chocked sewers.

Shopkeepers of the affected roads said the filthy environment persisting there for the last 12 days was not only affecting their business but also presenting an ugly scene to passersby.

People residing in buildings situated on Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan Road and Daudpota Road deplored that although they were exposed to serious health hazards owing to the persisting unhygienic conditions, the officials concerned had not taken any measure to drain out the stagnant water. They demanded that the authorities immediately drain out the stagnant water.
