LAHORE, Aug 26: PML-N Lawyers Forum Punjab president Naseer Ahmad Bhutta has moved the Lahore High Court in a petition seeking a directive to the federal government for appointment of a medical commission to examine nuclear scientist Dr Qadeer Khan and issue bulletins on his health on a daily basis.

The petitioner stated that detention of the scientist by the federal government was not acceptable even on the reason of his security.

He requested that the court should issue a directive to the government to set Dr Khan at liberty and allow his medical examination by physicians of his own choice for treatment.

He feared that the government was not expected to provide him proper treatment because it was acting on foreign directives in the case of ‘the father of the nuclear programme.’

The petitioner said the PML-N Lawyers Forum had decided to provide the best possible medical treatment to Mr Khan for which a delegation of 10 lawyers be allowed to meet him at his residence in Islamabad.

Advocate Bhutta stated in his petition that Dr Khan was put under house arrest and his home in Islamabad was kept under strict surveillance under foreign dictates.

He submitted that his life was already under threat which was proved when the government itself announced that he was suffering from a disease which might prove fatal to him.

In such an incident, the country and its nuclear programme would suffer an irreparable loss. The only way to prevent such a loss was to end all restrictions on Dr Khan’s movement so that he could be able to get him treated from doctors of his choice.
