KARACHI, Aug 23: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Wednesday demanded unseating of the MMA MNAs for their alleged blasphemous behaviour during the presentation of amendments to the Hudood Ordinance.

This was stated by the members of the MQM coordination committee at a news conference addressed at the party headquarters at Nine Zero.

They were of the view that strong action was needed against the MMA representatives for their alleged act of desecration of the verses of the Holy Quran, the sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as the MMA men tore copies of the proposed ordinance, and trampled it.

The MQM coordination committee members demanded of the President, General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the Speaker, the Chief Election Commissioner and chief justice of Supreme Court to take notice of the sacrilegious act the MMA and revoke their membership of the National Assembly.

Anwar Alam said the MQM would hold a protest rally on Thursday against the MMA for its blasphemous act in the National Assembly and warned that the MQM would never tolerate a blasphemous act, and those who committed the blasphemous act would be exposed.

He appealed to the people from all schools of thoughts to participate in the rally without any political affiliation and added that in this connection, the MQM had set up different committees to hold a successful rally to expose MMA’s hypocritical policies.

He said in the proposed bill word Quran, Holy Prophet, his sayings were written and the MMA members had torn the copies of the amended ordinance and trampled the torn pieces under their feet.

MQM coordination committee members said this act was unethical, unlawful and immoral and against the Islamic values, and alleged that the MMA only wanted to grab power and was never interested in Islam but used the name of Islam for their vested interest.

Anwar Alam said that people all over the country were protesting against MMA's shameful and blasphemous act because no Muslim can tolerate desecration of the Holy Quran and name of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) .

Asked to comment on MQM’s position on the incident in Punjab in which some police official had acted in a controversial manner while the MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar was addressing a corner meeting, Mr

Anwar Alam said there were always someone obstructing the party’s efforts to reach the people.

He, however, said that since action had been taken against the concerned officer, the matter was finished.

With regard to police action against protesting teachers, the MQM coordination committee said senior police officials had been contacted and asked to take action against those who indulged in such uncalled for action against teachers.
