LARKANA, Feb 11: A raiding team of Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Monday discovered nine persons kept in illegal confinement at Wagan police station.

Haji Manzoor Ali Jatoi, the resident of village Kahiro Jatoi filed a constitutional petition alleging that Wagan police, under the lead of SHO Ghulam Murtaza Mirani, on Feb 6 raided his house and arrested Maqsood Ali, Rajib Ali and Abdul Ghafoor.

Despite being approached several times, the SHO declined to release them.

Mr Justice Muhammed Afzal Soomro, appointing Gulzar Soomro as raid commissioner, instructed him to find out the three persons kept in habeas corpus.

The party, upon conducting raid, found not only the three persons at the police station, for which the petition was filed in the High Court, but six others who had also kept there in wrongful confinement.

The raid commissioner told this correspondent that the police on duty did not produce any valid document to prove their arrest. Neither any entry nor any remand was with the police to justify the arrests.

The six other persons lodged at the police station were identified as — Habiullah Barijo, Illahi Bakhsh, Allah Rakhio Jatoi, Aandal Chandio, Malikdino and a police constable Gul Hassan Tunio.

Aandal and Malikdino were in illegal confinement at Wagan police station for the last one month, the raid commissioner disclosed, adding that though FIR was lodged against police constable Gul Hassan Tunio, police had not sought any remand.

The SHO was asked to appear before the court on Tuesday along with all the detainees and explain why he had kept all the nine in illegal confinement without any remand or entry.
