KARACHI, Aug 20: A group of armed men have attempted to kidnap a son of a Dawn staffer at Safoora Goth. Police registered an FIR (393/06) under sections 364/511/34 on Sunday against unknown persons on the complaint of the victim, Shahid Hussain. However, no arrest has so far been made.

Abbas Jalbani, senior sub-editor of Dawn, said his son Shahid Hussain, working for a Sindhi language newspaper, was walking towards home from the Safoora Goth bus stop on Friday when four armed men in an Alto car intercepted him. Three of the occupants holding guns tried to push Shahid into the car.

He raised an alarm, attracting the attention of the security guards on duty at a nearby petrol station. When the guards rushed to the spot, the armed men sped their car away. Shahid Hussain went to the Sachal police station to register the case, Mr Jalbani added.
