LARKANA, Aug 18: The death of a girl from gastroenteritis in Fateh Mohammed Awan village near Moenjodaro on Friday prompted the district management, army personnel and health officials to rush to the area.

DCO Naseer Jamali along with Col Riaz and EDO (health) Dr Noor Ahmed Khoso rushed to the village where doctors set up a medical camp where 35 patients of gastroenteritis were provided treatment.

They received 90 other patients suffering from various diseases. The DCO urged doctors to provide medicines free of charge to patients and warned that he would not tolerate negligence in this regard.

The official also visited the Wadha Pul village in Dokri taluka and enquired villagers about their problems.

Sources said that around 50 patients including children and women from Fateh Mohammed Awan village were admitted to the Dokri taluka hospital and Chandka Medical College Hospital on Thursday complaining of gastroenteritis.

They included Khalid Awan, 12, three-year-old Insaf, Zeenat, 13, Darya Khatoon, 36, Hamida, 30, Sadaran, 40, Sughra, 40, Azima, 70, Aslam, Muslim and Parveiza.

KHAIRPUR: Approximately 200 children were hit by high fever and gastroenteritis on Thursday evening in flood-hit kutcha area villages of Abdul Rehman Unnar, Jumo Panyo and Darro, Kingri taluka.

They were vaccinated against different diseases by a health team as a precautionary measure. Some of the affected children reportedly fell unconscious.

The children hit by gastroenteritis included Jamil Ahmed, Shafique Hussain, Tahir, Fazil, Riaz Hussain, Faheem, Rukhsana, Qainat, Asia, Amir Hussain, Nusrat, Naveed, Khair Mohammad, Rafique, Abdullah and Akhtiar. Parents of the children along with other villagers informed the district administration about the situation.

The villagers suspected that the vaccines administered to their children were expired one.

Later, a medical team led by Dr Bashir Jumani, in charge rural health centre, Pir Jo Goth, was sent to the Jumo Panyo Village on Thursday evening.

Due to flood conditions the team was taken in boats to some of the affected areas from Saddar Ji Bhatiyoon.

The doctors examined 50 children and also gave them medicines. The doctors also visited the affected villages on Friday.

When contacted, DDO Kingri, Akhtar Ali Qureshi confirmed the incident.

A duty doctor in RHC, Pir Jo Goth, said that the disease was due to consumption of contaminated water.

According to an official handout issued by the district information office, Khairpur, about eight villages in Kingri taluka have come under flood water.

They included Jumo Panyo, Abdul Rehman Unnar, Bhambo, Dhani Partiyo Junejo, Rasool Bux Junejo, Hidayatullah Junejo and Mour Kalhoro Villages.

District Nazim Niaz Hussain Shah visited Faridabad bund on Thursday and noticed the flood situation.

He directed the district administration to shift the people to safer places and prepare their lists.
