KARACHI, Feb 11: Various parts of Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Moosa Colony and adjoining areas went without water for the fourth consecutive day on Monday due to a delay in repairing of a 24-inch dia pipeline.

Water supply position of different localities, including Mauripur and Manghopir, was badly affected on Thursday last following a burst in the 48-inch dia pipeline, and another 24- inch dia trunk main line had started leaking on Thursday. Since both the pipelines passed underneath several houses of Sikandarabad in Liaquatabad, water gushing out from the bursting and leaking pipelines damaged furniture and fixtures in the affected houses.

Though the repairing work of the 48-inch dia pipeline had been completed on Monday, work on the leaking pipeline was still continuing and as a result of which water leaking from it had spread in different narrow lanes of Liaquatabad No 7 (Sikandarabad), causing inconvenience to residents of the locality.

However, the KWSB sources claimed that the pipeline repairing would be completed by Monday night and normal supply from it would be restored by Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, water overflowing from another pipeline near North Karachi’s 5-C roundabout has inundated a major portion of the adjacent roads, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

People residing in the area complained that water coming out from the leaking pipeline was on the one hand creating acute water shortage in their localities and, on the other, was damaging those streets where water often remained stranded.

FILTH: All sorts of rubbish and filthy material taken out from a nulla in Liaquatabad have been dumped on a road that leads to the locality’s Maulvi Abdul Haq School.
