GUJRANWALA, Aug 4: Five police officials, including an SHO and an assistant sub-inspector, were dismissed from service on the charge of killing a man in custody and throwing his body out of jurisdiction after an inquiry on Friday.

Malikwal SHO Inspector Shahzad Mahmood arrested Azhar Iqbal from his house with help of ASI Iftikhar Ahmad and three constables Mukhtar Ahmad, Ghulam Murtaza and Asif and tortured him to death in police station. Later, they threw his body out of their jurisdiction.

On receiving information, the DIG took serious notice and ordered registration of an FIR against police officials besides conducting an inquiry into the incident.

NO COMPENSATION: Hundreds of destitute have been deprived of compensation under Food Support Programme and become rolling stone between post offices and Baitul Maal.

The Baitul Maal office had announced payment of Rs3,000 compensation per head to the poor through post offices around one month ago. But majority of the people have not yet got the compensation.

Some people said on Friday that they had approached the Baitul Maal and post office but nobody paid attention to them.

When contacted, Baitul Maal district office incharge Asif Jehangir Warriach confirmed it and pointed out that many people complained of non-payment of compensation from post offices.

He said the Baitul Maal office had ordered payment to 4,500 more people some six months ago but majority of them complained that they have been still deprived of it.

He said post offices heads have been directed to provide compensation on priority after completing their booklet.
