KARACHI, Aug 4: A large number of Lyariites on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the KESC administration for prolonged power cuts in several areas of the town for the past many days.
The violent protestors set tyres on fire and shouted slogans against the KESC, strongly condemning it for its failure in providing smooth power supply during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, Lyari Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayaz also condemned the KESC mangement for the prolonged power outages in different areas of his town.
The town nazim alleged that the law and order situation was being created under a well-planned conspiracy and the power outages were part of it.
He said the most affected areas of the town were Chakiwara, Singho Lane, Kumhawarah, Kalakot, Miran Naka, Maula Madad, UC-8, Sarbazi Mohalla, Bihar Colony, Agra Taj Colony, Khadda Market and Daryaabad.
He further said they were unable to contact the KESC authorities as the telephone numbers of the complaint centre concerned were found constantly engaged and the officers concerned had switched off their cellphones.
He said that the behaviour of the KESC showed as if they had been providing electricity without charges.
The town nazim pointed out that the pumping stations were severely affected by the prolonged power outages, especially during the rainy season.
Talking on sewerage system, he said that the sewerage system in the town was also affected due to improper arrangements of the department concerned.—PPI
