KARACHI, Feb 10: Many areas in the city remained without electricity on Sunday for more than two hours despite the fact that Karachi is in the grip of winter with minimum temperature around nine degrees Centigrade.
Residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Karachi, Federal B. Area, Malir, Baghdadi, North Nazimabad, Defence, PECHS, Clifton and Gulistan-i-Jauher told Dawn that their localities had suffered loadshedding for more than two hours.
A resident of Defence, Phase IV, 7th Gizri Lane, told Dawn that her locality had been without electricity since 6.30 in the morning. “It is hard to believe that no one at the KESC is bothered about the fact that a large number of people have been without electricity for more than 10 hours. I have lodged a complaint with my complaint centre. They seem to have done nothing so far,” she said.
A resident of Landhi said his area had been without electricity since 6.30pm.
A resident of PECHS told Dawn voltage supply in his area had been fluctuating for more than three days.
A resident of Federal B. Area, Block 18, told Dawn that his area was “worst-affected as far as unannounced loadshedding was concerned”. He said his locality had faced a power shutdown first from 4am to 7.50am and then from 8.45am to 8.50am. When he contacted his regional complaint centre he was told that Blocks 12 and 14 had also been hit, though partly, by loadshedding. “It is no consolation that other areas are also going through loadshedding.”
A resident of Korangi, Sector 5, told Dawn his locality had been without electricity from 12.15pm to 1.15pm.
A resident of Shah Faisal Colony said he had faced a power shutdown at the time of Fajr prayers. He added that the power supply had been restored after nearly four hours.
A resident of North Karachi, Sector 11-H, said his area had been without electricity for almost three hours.
An irate resident of North Nazimabad said it was beyond him why the KESC was resorting to loadshedding when the temperature was around nine degrees Centigrade.
A resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 4, told Dawn that her locality faced a recurring fault — breakdown of one of the three phases.
