KARACHI, July 26: The leader of a disgruntled faction in the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, Imtiaz Ahmad Sheikh, has expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting with President Gen Pervez Musharraf at the Chief Minister’s House here on Wednesday.
Mr Sheikh was addressing a press conference at his residence after attending the meeting with President Musharraf along with other legislators and other office-bearers of the party.
Referring to his reported differences over party reorganization and internal elections, he said that it was an internal matter and would be resolved with consensus and in accordance with the directives of President Musharraf. He said PML’s chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain could not reach Karachi on Wednesday and would soon visit the city to amicably resolve party issues.
When he was asked if the ‘forward bloc’, which was formed at the Mehar House on Tuesday, still exited despite the president’s explicit directive about unity in the party, Mr Sheikh said that it was very much in existence as “our colleagues have some grievances and the president has given assurances about their mitigation”.
He said that they did not talk about changing the chief minister and said that they had only apprised the president about their problems.
Earlier, he criticized the ‘open letter’ sent to the president 18 former generals and intellectuals and termed it a condemnable manifestation of disgruntled people. He said that these people had no objections about the president’s uniform when they were in power, adding that they were critical of the president only when they had been removed from their offices and were denied senate tickets and ministries.
He was accompanied by Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Rahila Tiwana, Ejaz Khokhar and Taj Mohammad.
DIFFERENCES: President Gen Musharraf’s visit had resolved all differences in the ruling PML in Sindh and the party had emerged as a strong and united party, according to the PML Sindh’s Secretary Information Halim Adil Shaikh.
After the meeting with the president, he said that the president’s interest in the affairs of the party had boosted the party workers’ morale and had helped them to overcome a crisis in the province. He said that the party workers would not disappoint the president.
