LAHORE, July 20: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given a green signal to Aamir Hayat Khan Rokhari for contesting the Lahore City Cricket Association polls in a bid to block the way of former PCB chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Tauqir Zia.
Aamir who has been contesting for the LCCA president’s post for the last 25 years, announced his panel for next Thursday’s elections, retaining Khawaja Zafar as secretary and Mian Javed Ali as treasurer. It is a dramatic turnaround of things since the PCB had earlier decided not to support Aamir due to the board’s stand-off with the city association in the past few years.
It was only when the former PCB chief Tauqir Zia expressed his desire of contesting the LCCA elections that the tide turned in Aamir’s favour. Recently, when Tauqir met Aamir Rokhari to get his support for the LCCA polls, the latter failed to budge from his stance of contesting the elections for the next term.
It transpired that the PCB, realising Tauqir’s intentions, reconsidered its policy and decided to put its weight behind Aamir. Some 35 representatives of the three zones affiliated with the LCCA will be casting their votes to elect a new president.
It has been learnt through reliable sources that the PCB election commissioner Javed Zaman is also a candidate for a post in the LCCA’s executive committee.
