LAHORE, July 20: A Supreme Court full bench on Thursday told Balochistan police IG to ensure security of a couple who married without the consent of their tribes.

Comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Syed Tasaddaq Husain Jillani and Justice Karamat Nazir Bhindari, the bench also allowed the husband and the wife to live anywhere in the country.

Ms Fatima, a lecturer at the Girls Degree College Quetta, had written a letter to the chief justice seeking protection for herself and her husband Zainullah as they faced threat to their lives from their respective tribes after they contracted love marriage.

The court turned the letter into a petition and issued directions to Balochistan police.

Police produced the couple in the court, where Fatima submitted that their marriage was opposed by their respective tribes who were against each other.

She alleged that she had been detained in Zhob. She stated that she wanted to live with her husband Zainullah. Her request was granted by the court. —Correspondent
