JHANG, July 20: The performance of only three police stations out of a total 19 is found satisfactory in the district.

During a crime review meeting held here on Thursday with DPO Hamid Mukhtar Gondal in the chair, the SHOs of Kotwali Jhang, Garh Maharaja and Bhowana were given a cash prize of Rs1,000 each and letters of appreciation for showing good performance.

The SHOs of Massan, Mochiwala and Barana were asked to improve their performance.

Ironically, the Garh Maharaja SHO has since been transferred to a smaller police station, while the Massan SHO reprimanded for his poor performance continues to hold the charge for the last 20 months.

Chiniot ASP Mahboob Rashid received a letter of appreciation from the review committee for his excellent performance as SDPO, whereas the Jhang city circle SDPO was at the receiving end of displeasure because of his poor performance.

The handout said the district police, during the period under review, busted seven gangs of criminals and arrested 158 proclaimed offenders. They also recovered stolen property worth Rs2.81 million, 42 guns, 51 revolvers, 40 pistols, 13 rifles, six carbines and two daggers.

The police registered 57 cases against drug pushers and seized 2.5kg heroin, 9.5kg charas, 2.5kg opium and 154 litre liquor.

The police also claim to have smashed two distilleries.
