LAHORE, Feb 9: Ten top fillies will compete for Sunday’s 1000 Guineas of Pakistan 2002, to be run over a mile, featuring the six-event card of the 18th Lahore Winter Meeting to be held at the Racecourse.

A term race for four-year-old country-bred fillies, the event carries the biggest purse for any fillies’ event in Pakistan. All fillies will carry an equal weight of 8 stones 12 pounds.

The 2002 Guineas of Pakistan seems to be an open affair between three progenies of imported sire Cisco Well and the deceased English sire Al Trui.

They are: Cisco Magic (Cisco Well- Cone Them All), Gambling Girl (Cisco Well-Madhu Bala), Song Of Freedom (Cisco Well- Let Get Going) and Royal Soul (Al Trui- Annabelle).

On the recent performances Cisco Magic and Royal Soul stand out. They have to their credit one facile victory over seven furlongs each. On last year’s showing Gambling Girl and Song Of Freedom cannot easily be ignored. They all are bred to stay over the race distance.

However, there is an objection against two fillies, Gambling Princess and Persian Bold , on having different identification markings than those declared at the time of registration. Their eligibility depends subject to a decision by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards prior to the running of the race on Sunday.

This will be the fourth race in day’s racing order. The field for the 2002 Guineas of Pakistan comprises the following probable runners: Gambling Girl, My Own Business, Royal Soul, Cisco Magic, Persian Bold, Song Of Freedom, Divine force, Dizzy Height, Oneeza and Early Bird. (All will carry 8-12).

The main supporting event, the Anar Kali Cup, the three-year- old fillies cherished race, to be run over the sprinting distance of six furlongs seems to be a one-filly race.

Democracy, a nursling daughter of Cisco Well out-of-Let Get Going, who registered a fluent win in Maidens’ Plate on Jan 13 last is being listed as top contender.Although some of her rivals has scored victories but their performances has no bearing on her’s.

Only seven fillies will line up for this third event of the afternoon, if their are no last-minute withdrawals.

First race will be held at 12.30 pm.
