LAHORE: Rs600m for priority roads

LAHORE, Feb 9: The Lahore Development Authority will build six arterial roads in southern Lahore at a cost of Rs594 million under a priority road construction programme.

The roads proposed to be built under the programme approved by the Punjab governor, Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired), are:

Main Johar Town Road from Maulana Shaukat Ali Road to Raiwind Road via Shaukat Khanum Hospital, New Bypass through Johar Town linking Judicial Colony at UBD Canal with College Road in Quaid-i-Azam Town (Lahore Township), College Road from the Quaid-i-Azam Town to Defence Road, a new road linking Ferozepur Road to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road along the southern side of Satto Katla Drain, another new road linking Wahdat Road to UBD Canal through Mustafa Town and improvement of Defence Road Phase I from Bhhoptian Chowk to Kahna Kachha railway crossing.

The priority road construction programme was discussed at a meeting chaired by the LDA director general. The DG was informed that the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency had completed the preliminary survey for the construction of the new roads. The director general ordered that a detailed survey of all the roads be started simultaneously for preparation of cost estimates and early construction.
