KARACHI: 10 cars, 20 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Feb 9: Thirty vehicles — 10 cars and 20 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Saturday, bringing the total number of hijacked and stolen vehicles to 254 so far in the current month.

Four cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen. Eleven motorcycles were hijacked. Nine others were stolen, sources in the police said.

However, a police press release said that five cars and 10 motorcycles were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Saturday.

According to the press release, one car and four motorcycles were hijacked. Four cars and six motorcycles were stolen.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Saturday.

A 15-year-old boy was run over by a truck on Super Highway in the limits of Sachal police.

The police said that Gul Badin had come to a sacrificial animals’ market to sell fodder. The police arrested the truck driver, Mehboob, and impounded his vehicle.

A young man was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in Bihar Colony in the police limits of Orangi Extension.

KILLED: An elderly woman was killed in the city on Saturday.

The woman, identified as Nargis wife of Sakhawat Ali, who was in her late 60s was found strangled in her flat No A-9, Relax Apartments, Sector B, Samanabad, Federal B-Area, where she lived alone.

The police said that the dead woman’s husband was in Saudi Arabia and the couple was childless.

The woman was believed to have been killed by bandits, who also got away with valuables from the flat.

SHOT DEAD: A 40-year-old man was found shot dead in Gulbahar police limits on Saturday.

The man was believed to have been killed at other place and his body was dumped in the boot of a taxi (No JM-1439) which was abandoned at an isolated place near the Khamosh Colony graveyard.

The taxi had been hijacked on Friday night in the police limits of Rizvia Society.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where sources said that the victim had received three bullets, all in his upper torso.

Later, the dead man was identified as Fahim Ahmed, resident of North Karachi.

The police said that the man was disowned by the family about four years back because of his criminal activities, including gambling. He had been living with his friends.

ROBBERIES: A inspector of the traffic police, Javed Riaz Bhutto, posted at Frere traffic police section, was on his way when he was intercepted by a car near Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman Road. The occupants of the car snatched a wallet, containing cash, from the police official and escaped.

Three armed men barged into the house of Qamar Khan in Al-Fallah Society, Malir, and looted cash and valuables.

Several participants of a wedding party were looted in a train.

Bandits robbed Haider of cash and valuables. He was on his way home from the airport after he arrived from abroad, when the bandits intercepted him near Askari Apartments and deprived him of cash and jewellery.
