GUJRAT: Under the prison reforms initiative of the Punjab government, examinations were conducted at literacy centres established for inmates at the District Jail.

Five literacy centres were established in Gujrat jail where inmates were provided basic education.

Examinations of four literacy centres were conducted under the supervision of Superintendent Jail Arshad Warraich and Deputy Superintendent Malik Mustafa Ahmed.

A total of 192 inmates appeared in the examinations, while eight could not participate due to court appearances.

Representative of the Literacy Department, Muhammad Usama, monitored the examination process.

According to officials, the purpose of the programme is to equip inmates with education, help them become productive members of society, and transform prisons into true reformative institutions.
