Dhaka stocks up

DHAKA, Feb 9: Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended higher for the second straight session on Saturday as banking and cement shares rose, brokers said.

They said most of the shares were attractive price wise following a fall for two sessions until Wednesday.

DSE benchmark index rose 4.43 points or 0.59pc to 755.74. Gainers led losers by 81 to 39 with 35 remaining unchanged.

The DSE-20 index for selected blue chips also rose 2.39 points or 0.26 per cent to 931.64.

The DSE shares rallied for the second consecutive day as investors bought prospective banking and cement sector, Tarikul Islam of SAR Securities, a private brokerage firm.

Prime Bank, a private sector bank rose 1.44pc to 110.00 taka on 31,800 shares valued at $0.21m.

Leading cement producer, Meghna Cement gained 4.04 per cent to 276.25 taka on 15,550 shares valued at $0.07 million.

Saturday’s overall turnover totalled $1.30 million, down $0.07 million from the previous trading session on Thursday.

Some 2.32m shares were traded on the day against 5.79m shares in the previous session.—Reuters
