LAHORE, June 28: The Water and Power Development Authority is committed to implementing the president’s water vision and exploring all possible avenues of generation and transmission of power.

This was stated by Wapda chairman Tariq Hamid in a press statement issued here on Wednesday. He said the engineering and detailed design work of Diamer-Bhasha dam was on schedule, construction of Thakot bridge had been awarded and widening of the Karakoram Highway was at the planning stage.

The feasibility of Munda dam also was complete and the project was expected to be ready by 2014, he said. He added that the government had allocated Rs45 billion for water sector, which included Rs10 billion for land acquisition for big dams. The rest of Rs35 billion had been allocated for ongoing projects like Greater Thal Canal, Kachi Canal, Subakzai dam, Ranee Canal etc.
