ISLAMABAD, June 27: The government on Tuesday notified dearness allowance for all civil servants in pay scales 1-22 and armed forces personnel and civil armed forced personnel at the rate of 15 per cent of the basic pay with effect from July 1, 2006.

The allowance will also be applicable to civilians paid from defence estimates, including contingent paid staff, contract employees employed against civil posts.

The notification said the dearness allowance will not be treated as part of emoluments for the purpose of calculations of pension, gratuity and recovery of house rent. This will not be admissible to employees during their postings abroad but will be allowed during leave.

The ministries and divisions have been asked to accommodate this allowance within the budgetary allocation for the next financial year.

Meanwhile, the president has also sanctioned with effect from July 1 a teaching allowance for all teachers of federal government educational institutions.

The allowance will be allowed to teachers at the rate of Rs500 per month to matric with primary teaching certificates, Rs750 per month to intermediate with teaching certificates and Rs1,000 per month for BA/MA teachers with BEd and MEd or above.
