KARACHI, June 20: The Municipal and City Government Karachi's record of historic importance will be preserved on scientific lines under the supervision of Sindh Ombudsman Yusuf Jamal.

A decision in this respect was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil here on Tuesday.

Nasreen Jalil pointed out that Karachi's archives was of great importance and needed to be preserved on scientific lines.

In this regard coordinated efforts are required to be made by the city and Sindh governments, Karachi University and other relevant organizations.

The meeting considered a proposal for establishing a separate department of archives in the city government.

It was decided that documents of municipal bodies of Karachi would be preserved in consultation with officials of the departments concerned of the city government and the archives department of the Sindh government.

The meeting decided that work on classification of documents would start on Monday next. It was also decided that the Sindh information and archives department would train students in the preservation of documents.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Ombudsman Yusuf Jamal, Adviser for Information and Archives Salahuddin Haider, EDO for Master Plan Iftekhar Ahmed Qaimkhani, Executive District Officer for Law Manzoor Ahmed, head of the History Department of Karachi University Nargis Rasheed, Director of Archives Iqbal Nafees and others. — APP
