MIRPURKHAS, Feb 8: The Mirpurkhas District Bar Association in its meeting held on Friday opposed the induction of army officers in the anti-terrorism courts.

The meeting was presided over by Shamsuddin Shaikh, advocate, the president of the Bar.

The meeting termed the amendment made in the Anti- Terrorism Act 1997 unlawful and unconstitutional.

The meeting urged President Gen Pervez Musharraf to withdraw the said amendment in the ATA.

INJURED: A man, Mohammad Aslam, 25, sustained serious burn injuries in Satellite Town here on Thursday.

He was working in a shop when his cloth caught fire as a result of which, he sustained 65 per cent burn injuries, and rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.

DISMISSED: Mirpurkhas EDO health Dr Illahi Bux Soomro has dismissed a supervisor of malaria programme, Kot Ghulam Mohammad.

Supervisor Mohammad Ramzan was dismissed from his service on the charges of absence from his duty for a long time.

HAND PUMPS: Some 75 hand pumps have been installed in the three talukas of Mirpurkhas district.

The pumps have been installed by the National Rural Support Programme under the Unicef programme for providing sweet water facility in the deprived areas of the district.
