SIALKOT, June 12: The education department has again shown its inability to reopen the closed government schools. Sources said the major reason behind it was ‘unending’ political interference.

As many as 50 schools are still lying closed due to non-availability of teachers for the last several years. Of them, 10 schools have been converted into cattle shed.

They said for 2,852 government schools, 13,000 teachers have been appointed.

District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Nadeem Sarwar said on Monday 58 girls and boys high schools have been running without heads since long.

The DMO said the Boys Primary School Kaseerey, Markaz Daallowali, has been closed due to non-availability of teachers.

He said there was only one ‘Educator’ teacher for all 25 students of the school. But the officials of the education department transferred the teacher ‘illegally’ as the post of Educator teacher was non-transferable. As a result, the school has been closed.

He said the Girls High School Looni, Bajwat, has also been lying closed for the last eight years and villagers have converted this school into a cattle shed. The Boys Primary School, Olakh Awan, has also been lying closed.

SENIORITY LIST: Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) central information secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra has urged the federal, provincial and district governments to ensure early preparation of seniority lists of the SST teachers.

Mr Nagra told journalists here on Monday that the government has been asked to make appointments on vacated posts of SST teachers in the district in the light of these proposed seniority lists.
