KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) have arrested seven suspected extortionists belonging to the Jameel Chhanga and Samad Kathiawari gangs during joint intelligence-based raids in the city.

A Rangers spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday that five suspects — Parvez alias Pawa, Asghar Ali, Shakeel Ahmed alias Comrade, Faizan alias Lamboo and Muhammad Zubair alias Chhoto — were arrested in wounded condition. Other two held suspects were identified as Muhammad Sabir and Muhammad Umar alias Afshani Baloch.

They targeted factory owners, shopkeepers, under-construction building projects and restaurants, it added.
