KARACHI, June 8: An expatriate was deprived of foreign currency and other valuables by armed persons in police uniform near the NIPA intersection in the Aziz Bhatti police limits early Thursday morning.

Mohammad Irfan was heading home in a radio-cab after arriving from Saudi Arabia when he was intercepted near the NIPA intersection by four persons in a car (ACH-786) posing themselves as policemen.

A day earlier, another expatriate, Nadir, heading home on return from Dubai was deprived of foreign currency and other valuables in a similar manner.

The suspects were carrying wireless sets and weapons deprived Irfan of 40,000 riyals and other valuables.

Though police have recently claimed to have busted a gang involved in such early morning hold-ups involving expatriates, these robberies are being carried out with impunity.

An increasing number of expatriates returning by early morning flights often get looted in the jurisdictions of Aziz Bhatti and Shahrea Faisal police stations.
