LAKKI MARWAT: The solarisation of water supply schemes has been completed in several areas of Lakki Marwat district, paving the way for provision of clean and potable drinking water to rural population.

Locals had raised the issue of water shortage and lack of access to clean drinking water during a khuli kutchery convened by Deputy Commissioner Hamiudullah Khan in Sherikhel area on Nov 5.

At the session, locals said that tubewells sunk for provision of water were lying unused as solarisation of water supply schemes was stopped owing to unknown reasons.

They told the deputy commissioner that rural population including women, children and elderly people had no option but to fetch water from other areas on donkey and camel carts.

Some residents said that they purchased tanks and drums full of water for drinking purpose and domestic use.

The deputy commissioner took serious notice of the matter and directed officials of public health engineering department to complete solarisation of water supply schemes in Sherikhel, Wazir Kallay and Hayatkhel areas within two weeks and share work completion report with his administration.

An official of the district administration said that water supply schemes had been made operational by completing solarisation work within the specified time.

“With the completion of work on installation of solar power system, the rural population will now get clean water for drinking purposes and other domestic uses,” he said. He reiterated the determination of district administration to ensure provision of basic amenities of life to people at their doorsteps.
