Rizwan Rescues Hyderabad

Published February 8, 2002

HYDERABAD, Feb 7: Hyderabad made excellent recovery, led by skipper Rizwan Ahmed, to reach a commendable 273 for six on the first day of Quaid Trophy Grade-I match against Karachi Whites at Niaz Stadium here Thursday.

Hyderabad lost half their side for 118 after Karachi Whites skipper Ghulam Ali won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first.

But Rizwan joined Javed Khan in a 91-run sixth-wicket stand. Rizwan then found another useful partner in paceman Raees Amjad as the pair combined to add an invaluable 64 for the unfinished seventh-wicket partnership.

At stumps, Rizwan was six shy of a maiden first-class century.

Farhan Iqbal, younger brother of Test batsman Faisal, made a dream first-class debut with four catches behind the stumps.
