KARACHI, May 28: Puma King galloped to victory as three-year-old bay colt, The Conqueror’s, who was our days best was compelled to withdraw on medical grounds in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The Conqueror’s fancied to land the race was scratched in the morning declaration owing to fever in addition to Bakhtawar reducing the field to nine.

Puma King who was later installed favourite with Fahim K astride was home in convincing fashion beating filly, Bright And Early, by eight and a half lengths.

In an earlier race, mare, Kinjehar, pulled off an upset when he outpaced chestnut, Lucky Five, by four and a half lengths. Finishing further four lengths behind was Desperado.

However, running of Desperado who was fancied to win left much to be desired.

Making amends, Raka Poshi also created quite a stir when it edged out Tag Team by two lengths to grab the third race.

Three-year-old filly, Jan-e-Mun, who was installed fancy was placed third while Auzy completed the frame.

Filly, Goldi Locks, lowered the colours of fancied filly, Sky Girl, when she picked up spoils in the next race.

Four-year-old bay colt, Fascinate, settled for third place among 15 runners after filly, Queen Of Mirwa, was withdrawn.

Jockey M. Nasir was the pick of the day as he returned with a splendid double. His winners were mare, Princess Ridda, in the fifth and filly, Stormy Kiss in the concluding event. The winners were sent by trainer Mushtaq Ali Khan.

Three-year-old bay colt, Captain Black, from the stables of Syed Ismail Shah finally shone when he was piloted home by Ghulam Shabbir II in the sixth race to clinch his maiden victory.

He beat Tharkyee belonging to the same connections by three quarter of a length.

The pre-race session was marred by hue and cry from the punters thus re-betting was ordered by the administration after canceling the previous one.

Captain Black came under heavy betting and installed favourite followed by Red Rufus. The former proved his mettle with a facile win.

Meanwhile, the administrator of KRC chaired two successive meetings with horse owners and asked them to help conduct fair races.

Off late, majority of the punters have a feeling that they are at the receiving end.
