SHEIKHUPURA, May 28: Gastroenteritis claimed lives of another three children who, along with hundreds of patients, were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in the last couple of days. On Sunday, the death toll reached 11 during the last one month.

Those who breathed their last on Sunday were infants Muhammad Tayyab, Abu Huraira and Ehsan.

The patients and the affected families have alleged that the government has failed to adopt measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease, which has spread panic.

In the last one month, the number of gastroenteritis patients admitted to the DHQ hospital has reached 1,200, a majority of them children. Many other health facilities are daily receiving a number of patients.

When contacted, DHQ hospital medical superintendent Dr Muhammad Azhar Hayat said all-out efforts were being made to combat the disease the main cause of which is contaminated and polluted water. He said additional doctors and paramedical staffers had been deputed at the hospitals and extra medicines made available to meet emergency.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: As many as 65 people, including women and children, were admitted to the DHQ hospital with complaints of gastroenteritis. An emergency was declared at the hospital.
