KARACHI, Feb 7: Six Nigerians were convicted separately on Thursday for drug trafficking by the special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, who awarded them different terms of rigorous imprisonment.
The drug traffickers were arrested last year on different dates by the Anti-Narcotics Force at Karachi Airport, where they had gone to fly out to their destinations.
All of them had concealed contraband drugs, stuffed in small metallic capsules, in their rectums. They excreted the capsules at the JPMC.
The judge sentenced Vimmanuec Chukk, arrested on May 19 last year for possessing 907 grams heroin, to a six-year term. The drug trafficker, who had stuffed the drug in 56 capsules, was also fined Rs50,000.
Peter Nduka, arrested on Aug 19, was also given a six-year term for attempting to smuggle 907 grams. The drug trafficker, who had concealed 66 drug-filled capsules, was fined Rs50,000.
The judge sentenced Petechuks Moses, arrested on July 21, to a four-year term. The drug trafficker, who carried 527 grams heroin in 41 capsuled, was fined Rs50,000.
Vituscokoye was sentenced to a four-year term for possessing 490 grams heroin, stuffed in 35 capsules. Arrested on July 16, the drug trafficker was fined Rs 50,000.
The judge sentenced Shedrack Chigozie to suffer rigorous imprisonment for five years. He was arrested on July 12 and 700 grams contraband drug, stuffed in 35 capsules, was recovered from him. The judge fined him Rs50,000.
Ganiyo Alashe, arrested on May 19, was sentenced to a four- year term for carrying him 584 grams heroin. The drug trafficker, who excreted 47 drug-filled capsules at the JPMC, was fined Rs50,000.
In all the judgments, the judge ordered that the convicts would have to undergo an additional six-month simple imprisonment in case of default on the payment of fine.
MQM LEADER: The judicial magistrate, Central, Sultan Awan, acquitted Kunwar Khalid Younus, a leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a case.
The case against Mr Younus and other party leaders was registered in on the complaint of then SHO of the Azizabad police, who alleged that the Muttahida leaders had threatened him and resorted to violent activities.
The JM exonerated the Muttahida leader from all charges as the prosecution could not establish its case against him.
The court declared Nasreen Jalil, Dr Farooq Sattar, Aftab Shaikh and Abdul Qadir Lakhani as absconding accused in this case.
