PESHAWAR, May 24: ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan has strongly opposed a ban on the entry of Afghan trucks into Pakistan which are taking part in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and Afghan Transit Trade.

In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, the ANP leader urged the government to revoke the decision, which was against the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement an international conventions.

He said that such decisions were not only damaging the image of Pakistan as a responsible neighbouring state, but would also spoil brotherly relations with Afghanistan.

He said that the already poor relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan would reach the point of no return by the ban on Afghan trucks and would destroy the transit trade.

Mr Khan said that the ANP was concerned about it because the Pakhtuns on both sides of the border were the actual sufferers of poor relations between the two countries.

He said that everybody knew that the Pakhtun areas had been badly affected by wars and terrorism, therefore it was the need of the hour to take steps for the redressal of their grievances, but the government was moving on the wrong side.

He said that other countries were taking part in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and Pakistan should also play its role in the rehabilitation of Afghans.

However, he claimed the government of Pakistan had not played its due role in this regard, which proved that some elements in the government were bent upon destroying relations with the neighbouring country.
